“Vanity can easily overtake wisdom. It usually overtakes common sense.” Julian Casablancas…
Okay… I confess. Not really sure who Julian Casablancas is, I just wanted to start this blog with a quote about vanity. Why? You probably won’t ask. Well the reason is all about the beautiful beast which is social media. When our page reached 200 followers, I did a little dance and got a bit excited. More recently it reached 300. But rather than dance, I kept very quiet. Since I started watching the follower figure, I have noticed how it goes up and down in the blink of eye, no rhyme or reason.
But why be bothered? It’s all a bit chicken and egg situation for me. If we have followers, we may have more interest in what we are doing… but to gain more followers we need more people aware of us… I can’t work out which one comes first. A wise man told me today that followers are a measure of vanity, so I hereby declare I will not be worried too much. You see, on Saturday we went out into the public arena to sell our t-shirts. I spoke to so many lovely people. Explaining the idea, the sustainability factor, our ideas and plans… all came with lots of lovely feedback. I left the house with a low expectation and a plan to just spread the word. We did much better than expected. Thank you if you came to Manor House Gardens Festival. Thank you to all the people who inspire me. And on that note, I will end this week’s blog with a quote for the strong women around me:
“A strong woman looks a challenge dead in the eye and gives it a wink.”
